Although his home is several hundred miles from Los Angeles, the
Los Angeles Times dedicated an abundant 1,857 words
and four photos
today (Monday October 24, 2005) to the home of Steve Pearcy. For
several months at his home in Sacramento, Pearcy has hung the figure of
a soldier in effigy (photo)
with a sign "Bush Lied. I Died." In addition, writes the Times
(emphasis mine),
The Pearcys once stuffed the U.S. flag in a trash can and
another day hung the Stars and Stripes in a noose from a tree.
One afternoon, Pearcy's Porsche bore an F-word rant against Bush,
the police and Israel (he says it was meant as a joke for
friends stopping by).
Even though the Times displayed two photos of
the "Bush lied" effigy (one on page A2, the other in color on
page B1), did they bother to question the Pearcys about what they
believed the President actually "lied" about? No ... Or if they did,
they didn't print the answer.
It's hard to imagine the Times giving a similar, sympathetic
treatment (four photos, 1800+ words) to a pro-military, pro-USA
exhibition.
