SNAP Shocker: SNAP Trumpeted Shrink as a ‘Leader’ Even After His Child Porn Arrest

Even after his arrest for possession of large amounts of child pornography, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) openly promoted Louisiana psychiatrist Dr. Steve Taylor as one of the "leaders" of its organization.

In April of 2008, Louisiana law enforcement jailed Taylor on 107 counts of juvenile pornography possession. Yet months later, in December, SNAP openly trumpeted Dr. Taylor as one of its "leaders" in a tribute page to one of the organization's recently deceased supporters.

The following screenshots of SNAP's tribute page leave little doubt that the organization heralded the child-porn-possessing psychiatrist as a "leader."

In the top screenshot, Barbara Dorris, SNAP's so-called "outreach director," announces that "some of our leaders" wanted to post remembrances of a recently deceased advocate:

By scrolling down the page, one can then read one of the remembrances posted by "Lyn and Steve Taylor" (Lyn is Steve's wife):

On April 13, 2011, a state judge finally sentenced Dr. Taylor to two years in prison.

This entire episode is alarming and raises several serious issues and questions:

1. In 1999, the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners placed Dr. Taylor on probation for five years for abuse of drugs (and other reasons). Was SNAP aware of this? If so, why did SNAP accept him as one of its leaders?

2. Is SNAP's acceptance of Dr. Taylor evidence of a callous disregard for children who are victimized by pornography?

3. Why has SNAP been completely silent about Dr. Taylor's arrest and jailing? Where is the apology? Will SNAP call for individuals to come forward with any information of wrongdoing by Dr. Taylor (as they so often quickly do with accused priests)?

4. Why was SNAP not aware of Dr. Taylor's interest in child porn?

5. When the notorious criminal pedophile and ex-priest Oliver O'Grady was arrested in Ireland recently for child porn possession, SNAP announced that it was "elated" by the news. Are they "elated" by Dr. Taylor's arrest and jailing as well? Why, or why not?

The Catholic League has published two excellent posts (1, 2) related to this shocking episode.

Stay tuned?
